TUROSS LAKE IS FISHING WONDERFULLY.
Some of the best winter fishing in Tuross lake has been happening over the past few weeks.
With the lake being flushed by three floods this year the opening to the sea is large and allowing a full tidal movement. This means that the lake is clean and clear, in fact the locals are saying it is in the best condition it has been in, in the past 15 years.
Many fish bred during the floods and there are super sized schools of bait fish in the deeper areas of the lake, on the edges of these schools are many larger feeding fish.

Large Flathead (like this one of Johns) have been landed in front of the boatshed and in some of the other deep sections of the lake, many others of a decent size have fallen prey to a well presented plastic.
Soft plastics are still the choice bait and lighter colors are the pick in the clear waters.

Estuary Perch are out of season till September but that doesn't seem to stop them attacking small plastics and suspending hardbody's. A slow retrieve and pause around any structure or reefy areas in the lake will normally produce a response from fish up to 50 odd cm.

Bream are also on the attack and some real monsters are being brought in. One that was landed at the boatshed last week measured 45cm, it was quickly measured and released, unfortunately the fisherman was so adamant about releasing it quickly we didn't even manage to get a photo.

Trevally are also attacking lures and bait, these little guys give a great fight on light gear.

Jewfish seem to have slowed a little this month with only a few recorded catches, but a trip out into the lake on the weekend with a sidescan sounder showed some very large humps at the sides of the bait balls in the deep water, most likely large jewfish!
